Problems with RDR2 and R* games in general

2020.10.23 06:38 MAD_DOG86 Problems with RDR2 and R* games in general

I'm going to start by copying a comment by u/Enriador that was posted on a thread that got locked (talking about how shooting enemies in limbs does not cripple them or have any noticeable effect)
">It's strange that R* had it in 1 but not in 2
I just finished my first playthrough of RDR1 in years. The amount of stuff they cut or dumbed down makes for a hefty list. Seriously, look at that:
All of this probably, being cynical, to make Red Dead Online run better and/or have exclusive Online content (like bounty hunting) that you can't find in Story Mode."
I have to say, RDR2 did seem like a lot less fun than RDR1. And I have actually noticed this in GTA 4 and 5. In R*'s attempts to make their games more serious and realistic they've made them a lot less fun. u/Enriador already listed a lot of stuff that was changed from RDR1, such as the animal skinning and fast travel. I don't believe I need to go into detail about how tedious skinning was. First time I saw it I was blown away by how realistic it was, but by the 10th time I was already sick of it.
On the topic of regression in games, GTA:SA had so much more that was removed from the later games, such as weapon proficiency enabling dual wielding, learning new fighting styles, being able to get fat or skinny or muscular, increasing swimming ability, dating, gang fights over territory (admittedly fits better with the setting of SA than it would with the other games but it could have been retooled to fit the other games).
An unrelated problem i had with RDR2 was actually in how unrealistic an aspect was. I could never get the point of the bandana and disguise system. If NPS saw you commit a crime, and then later saw you wearing the same clothes, they would get suspicious, which sounds interesting in principle, but it was pointless and your disguise would get blown the second you were seen by a sheriff.

2020.10.22 03:12 icedtg Switching from Mac, new to building PC. Help?

What will you be doing with this PC? Be as specific as possible, and include specific games or programs you will be using.
I will mostly be gaming AAA titles (GTA, Cyberpunk, Fallout, COD, League of Legends). Mostly open-world games, a little FPS, and some MOBA. I would also like to use it to photoshop pictures and make videos on an amateur level (not profesional at all, as a hobby). For this reason, I am leaning on Intel i7, but open to be convinced to AMD.
What is your maximum budget before rebates/shipping/taxes?
2000 CAD
When do you plan on building/buying the PC? Note: beyond a week or two from today means any build you receive will be out of date when you want to buy.
In the coming days.
What, exactly, do you need included in the budget? (ToweOS/monitokeyboard/mouse/etc)
Tower, cooling system, keyboard and mouse. I would like to buy two monitors (excluded from budget above) however if it’s possible to include it in the budget above then great! But I kind of want to concentrate on building a solid future proof PC.
Which country (and state/province) will you be purchasing the parts in? If you're in US, do you have access to a Microcenter location?
Quebec, Canada.
If reusing any parts (including monitor(s)/keyboard/mouse/etc), what parts will you be reusing? Brands and models are appreciated.
I am not.
Will you be overclocking? If yes, are you interested in overclocking right away, or down the line? CPU and/or GPU?
Yes, I anticipate overclocking.
Are there any specific features or items you want/need in the build? (ex: SSD, large amount of storage or a RAID setup, CUDA or OpenCL support, etc)
I do not want anything RGP. I like thinks simple. I wouldn't mind a black/white contrast. I do want my cables to be properly managed (so maybe a little extra room for the tower?)
Do you have any specific case preferences (Size like ITX/microATX/mid-towefull-tower, styles, colors, window or not, LED lighting, etc), or a particular color theme preference for the components?
None.
Do you need a copy of Windows included in the budget? If you do need one included, do you have a preference?
No, ill figure that out.

Thank you for your assistance :)

2020.10.22 00:41 r_mrkrabs A Little Essay on My Love for Rockstar Games

This is going to be a bit of a long one, from my standards, so get a snack and enjoy.
Also— Spoilers for RDR2 ahead, but if you haven’t played it, what are you doing? If you just don’t care either way, glad to have you here.
-I love Rockstar Games, and I have since the first time I played one of their games.
It’s 2013 and Grand Theft Auto 5 releases and it makes the news. From the stupid amount of money it made opening weekend to that one torture scene about midway through the campaign. And of course, this is the story about the game that my mom picks up on the news— that’s you literally torture someone. And so she mentions it to me, and mind you I’m very young back in 2013, and she tells me how it was disturbing and what not, and how she doesn’t want to see me playing that game until I was 18. Now, games were HEAVILY regulated in my house, I was lucky to be playing the Batman: Arkham Series before I was an actual teen, so of course GTA would be outlawed. But, me being a kid, two years later, when the opportunity presented myself, I bought it through Xbox Live, and played it. And oh my god, I cannot even describe the euphoria that was was going through my 12 year old mind.
The open world genre has always been my favorite genre. And my favorite games before the GTA 5 days were Batman Arkham Asylum and Arkham City because of my love for Batman plus an open world was just perfect. But, the type of open world that the Arkham Series provided was what I thought all open world games were like— a story then after a bunch of meaningless collectibles to make the world feel like it has a bunch of things to do. Grand Theft Auto 5 changed my perspective of that. To me, Los Santos felt alive and there were so many things to do like golf, clothes shopping, car modding, strip clubs, it was perfect. And most importantly it felt alive. It wasn’t just any open world game, it was a Rockstar game.
The following years, the excitement died, the open world was explored, and the online was grinded[I refused to buy a shark card, to me it felt illegitimate]. So I moved on, occasionally going back to play it, but other than that, GTA 5 was completed to me.
That was when I started paying attention to Red Dead Redemption 2. This was when they didn’t really have a release date yet, and completely flew under my radar. I knew of it, but never really paid attention to it. So I started following its progress and the hype grew. I made plans to get it on release, and I was excited because this was going to be my first Rockstar Games game that I would play on release. This excitement only made the wait longer, and harder to sit through.
October 26th 2018- Red Dead Redemption 2 releases to the public, but I don’t play it until the 28th because I was away. But, holy shit, my reaction to this game. It was amazing, there was just a feeling of the world that I loved, and I couldn’t put it down. I stayed up until 3/4AM just playing the everliving shit out of this game, and it quickly dethroned every other game that I considered to be my favorite. I fell in love with the characters, and with Arthur. I even began talking like him, still even say a few phrases in his voice here and there. Eventually, the time came where Arthur passed on, and you began to play as John, which was sad because I genuinely loved playing as Arthur. If any of you know the scene where he talked to the Nun and tells her how he’s scared, that scene still gets me choked up when I hear it. But that’s the beauty of Rockstars writing, it’s crafted in a genius way. The writing of their games is stellar, just as much as their worlds. There was a video essay I watched on RDR2 a while ago that described the world of RDR2 as artificially lonely, and there’s not better way to describe it.
To this day Red Dead Redemption 2 is my favorite game of all time and is the first game ever that I really felt emotionally attached to the characters of the game, which made me begin to think about what it is about Rockstar that makes their games so amazing, which is the first part of why I love Rockstar, because of how well crafted their games are.
I began studying their release schedule and development, and compared it to what other Devs were doing and found a pattern. The devs that take years upon years perfecting a game are the ones who have never released a bad game. These Devs and Rockstar alike put their blood, sweat, and tears into these games, and it really does show.
Rockstar is one of the few companies that have this privilege though, of being able to spend so long on one game, and that privilege is given to them because they never miss. They could begin releasing games every 2 years, lower their efforts, and at first make stupid money. But then, that exclusivity of a Rockstar Game will die down. It wouldn’t be the same feeling if they adhere to a biannual release cycle. The quality would definitely dip and there wouldn’t be as much hype around these game, because why hype them up as much. The games would become like Call of Duty where every release is a gamble and guess if it’s going to be good or not, and then it releases to either be good or bad.
This is the second part to why I love and respect Rockstar, because they could release games biannually or even every three years or so, and make stupid money by doing so. But they don’t, they take their time to craft masterpieces, and deliver. It’s sort of like an unspoken deal between us players, and them, we endure long waits, in order for them to deliver truly great games.
Grand Theft Auto VI will come when it’s ready, and it’ll be added to the long list of hits by Rockstar. Over the past years I’ve been enjoying Rockstar games for, it’s been set in stone that they do deliver, and I’m planning on the midnight launch for GTA VI to be the first midnight release I attend.
Thank you all for listening, and I look forward to hearing you guy’s perspective. :)
Edit: Fixed a few things around with the wording. Thank you all for the love!

2020.10.21 21:45 CherryWedding Laos outfits for sale in GTA?

Planning a wedding for next year, Mother-in-Law was hoping to go to Laos in April to bring back traditional Laos outfits for the soukwon. With COVID, it's very unlikely she'll be able to fly out at that time (nor would we want her to!).
Our next option was Lao Fest, which was also cancelled, and if it happens in 2021 it may be too close to the wedding date.
Anyone know of anywhere/anyone who sells traditional Laos outfits? We would prefer western GTA (oakville, burlington, sauga area) but would drive anywhere from London to Toronto.

2020.10.21 20:17 crimsonxtyphoon The story around GTA III evolves over 6 games. The story around GTA IV evolves around 4 games. Why do we only have one game for GTA V and then comes the talk about GTA VI?

The story around GTA III starts in 1984 and provides the backstory of many characters and many connections throughout the years up until the events of the main game in 2001. While San Andreas and Vice City are two of the most popular GTA games they're not exactly a main, numbered entry in the franchise.
GTA Vice City Stories provided us background on the Vance bros., Diaz, Phil and many other characters we met on the next game, and Vice City does the same thing leading to San Andreas which tells us a little more and so it goes. We even had a Game Boy entry set one year prior the main game, which despite not very popular and elementary to the main entry, was a very fun game and captured very well the essence of the old school PS1 one era and that modern PS2 era to come.
Over a timespan of six years (2001-2006) we had six GTA games. Not to mention the many other amazing titles Rockstar was putting at the same time.
Then it took a beautiful turn and we got GTA IV in 2008. The new identity of the Franchise was so well captured and exhibited in that game I wouldn't have words to describe it. Then we got The Lost and Damned, Chinatown Wars and lastly The Ballad of Gay Tony, and while these are nowhere near the level of games like Vice City, for example, they were fun, brought novelties and a great complement to Niko's quest in Algonquin and more to explore and to do in the new Liberty City.
I remember seeing in the game that they mention places like Vice City, Las Venturas and San Fierro a lot, and while maybe it was for the best we didn't get to see them yet, one really does expect to revisit those places soon.
GTA V is undoubtedly the most ambitious and greatest Rockstar production to date, the newly rebuild Los Santos and the surrounding area of Southern San Andreas is a wonder, the diversity in landscape, wildlife and everything makes me just glad to exist within its space, let alone play a Grand Theft Auto main entry game in that environment.
But then... that's it? I mean, we got to see a new place called North Yankton back in the early 00's but only for the intro of the game and then back again in present time for just one mission? Yet we can't even explore the place. We all know that the universe of GTA IV and V are the same but they definitely do not tell the same story, at least up until now. There's a lot more to Liberty City and Alderney City, there's a lot more to Southern San Andreas, there's probably a lot more to North Yankton than just these, separated, non-connected numbered entries.
I get that the whole GTA IV idea is more speculation than something concrete but I what I really wanted to see is side characters having a bigger role, in a past time, prior to GTA IV, leading up to the events of V. Hell, even a handheld game wouldn't be bad. Just give us more of what is literally just lying there.
Some older fans say they miss the way Rockstar used to make GTA games but I miss the way they used to make GTA stories.
